Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, better known as simply Michelangelo, was an immensely talented sculptor, painter, and architect of the Italian Renaissance. His art was and is some of the most famous and influential to have ever existed. He was extremely successful at virtually every discipline he tried. Among his most notable works are his “David” and “Pietà” sculptures and his frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. Living between 1475 and 1564, he was a contemporary of fellow Renaissance Man Leonardo da Vinci. One of the few artists of his time to garner fame and wealth from his work, he was so well loved that he became the first Western artist about whom a biography was written while still alive. His dedication and resulting works continue to be an inspiration to this day.
