For more adventurous souls, families will board flights and take to the skies, traveling domestically or internationally.<\/p>\n<p>As art lovers, we love combining our vacation time with a chance to step into a local art museum and take a glimpse into a famous masterpiece. From Paris to Brittany, from Provence to the French Riviera, there is something for everyone in France. Several museums call France home, most especially The Louvre in Paris. It\u2019s one of the world\u2019s largest museums and the most visited art museum in the world with hundreds of the greatest masterpieces exhibited.\u00a0One of the world\u2019s most famous, Leonardo da Vinci\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/monalisa.html\">Mona Lisa<\/a>, is perhaps the highlight of the museum visit. Also at the Louvre: da Vinci\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/virginofrocks.html\">The Virgin of the Rocks<\/a>, as well as works by Titian, Raphael, Caravaggio&#8230; the list is enormous \u2013 and priceless. At the Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Orsay also in Paris, many other famous paintings reside.\u00a0 Cezanne\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/hoofhamanata.html\">The Hanged Man\u2019s House<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/caplwipi.html\">The Card Players<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/lavablcone.html\">The Blue Vase<\/a>, and many of his other works hang there.\u00a0 Also: several paintings by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/degasgallery.html\">Edgar Degas<\/a>, including his The Ballet Class and the Ballet Rehearsal, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/gauguingallery.html\">Paul Gaugin<\/a>, and a plethora of works by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/monrep.html\">Claude Monet<\/a> all hang here. Of course, upon visiting France, one must visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/argaatgi1.html\">Monet\u2019s Giverny!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From France, it\u2019s a quick Chunnel ride over to England&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>United Kingdom:<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/su24x36ca.html\">Sunflowers<\/a> by Vincent van Gogh hangs in the National Gallery; Salvador Dali\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/meofna.html\">Metamorphosis of Narcissus<\/a> at the Tate Modern Museum, and many other artists hang in the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as other museums throughout the United Kingdom \u2013 especially in this year of The Queen\u2019s Diamond Jubilee. (See previous post:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/blog\/london-art-gets-the-royal-treatment\/\">London \u2013 Art Gets the Royal Treatment<\/a> for a robust rundown).<\/p>\n<p><em>Italy:<\/em> The Eternal City of Rome is also one of the dedicated art lover destinations on the Top 5 list.\u00a0 History and art are everywhere. One can\u2019t walk a step without being immersed in the ghosts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/davipa.html\">da Vinci<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstockart.com\/painting\/creation-of-adam\">Michelangelo<\/a>, Raphael, and Caravaggio.\u00a0 From frescoes to sculptures, from painted ceilings to paintings, Rome is steeped in perhaps the richest art history in the world. The Vatican Museums boasts the most masterpieces, whether painted or sculpted (The Sistine Chapel is part of the Vatican Museums), and the Borghese Gallery, although not the largest museum, possesses many works by Caravaggio. And, of course, churches and chapels also hold some of the world\u2019s richest treasures as well, such as Michelangelo\u2019s Pieta inside St. Peter\u2019s Basilica.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this is by no means an exhaustive list of countries to visit rich in art, just a jumpstart on planning.
