The artist in first place, two years in a row, is Vincent Van Gogh with his inviting painting, “Cafe Terrace”. He has three paintings listed in the Top 10 art for 2014. This year’s list is a star studded event, with world famous artists such as Claude Monet (in second place), Gustav Klimt, Pierre August Renoir, Frederic Leighton, Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas and Katsushika Hokusai.<\/p>\n

“Cafe Terrace at Night” was painted in 1888 in Arles, France at, you guessed it, a coffee shop. Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” taking third place for top selling art this year is a staple in American decor. He also has a sixth place winner, “Branches of an Almond Tree.” Van Gogh’s spirit lives strong through his work. It’s almost hard to believe, the same three paintings were in the Top 10 for the previous year. He is undoubtedly still the most popular artist in the world.<\/p>\n

    The works in this year’s Top 10 list were produced in the years 1832-1907. Four of the Top 10 pieces are from France (Degas, Manet, Monet and Renoir). Three of the Top 10 pieces are from the Netherlands (Van Gogh). One piece is from England (Leighton) and one romantic piece, \u201cThe Kiss\u201d is from Austria (Klimt). The last famous art piece on the list includes an incredible oil painting from Japan (Hokusai).<\/p>\n

    “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” made by Hokusai from 1830-1833 is done in the Japanese ukiyo-e style. This is one of the most famous pieces of Japanese art in the world and Hokusai is known for the woodblock print series about Mount Fuji that this piece is a part of. You can see Mount Fuji in the background of the print. That series was done in response to the domestic travel boom of his time.<\/p>\n
