Oscar-winning production companies Breakthru Films and Trademark Films are breaking new ground with their upcoming feature entitled\u00a0Loving Vincent<\/em>. The hard work of sixty painters over several years will finally release this year and while there’s no exact date just yet, I’m already excited.<\/p>\n

As the world’s first feature length animation to be painted by hand, the amount of work it’s taken is staggering. In order to produce what’s going to be an 80-minute long film, these dedicated artists have created\u00a056,800<\/em>\u00a0individual oil paintings. The director herself, Dorota Kobiela, is a classically trained painter in addition to an award winning animator.<\/p>\n

The story is taken directly from the more than 800 letters written by the artist in his lifetime. Those who are familiar with Van Gogh<\/a> know that such an intense and dramatic life needs no sensationalizing. For those readers who aren’t familiar with the artist’s life, all of his letters are available for free online<\/a>, in a wonderfully searchable and annotated form.<\/p>\n
