Kateryna Bortsova: The Study of Beauty in Life

Kateryna Bortsova is a modern artist that lives in Ukraine. She has been creating art all of her life, but began her official studies in art in 1993 and has continued for 20 years.  She has attended many schools but considers her life experience an important part of her education as well. Although most of her life she has stayed in her hometown in Ukraine, she has traveled to Serbia and Montenegro, which she considered a unique and meaningful experience. Bortsova loves the ability to reach a wider audience through her online presence, even though social media can sometimes distract her from her art.  Learning, growing, and changing are things that this artist considers part of life and she hopes that it will help her art to continue to evolve as time goes by.

Her art has won many awards and been featured in many shows that were highly praised, including the Metropolis Urban Winter Festival in India last year. Ideas are constantly taking root in her imagination from a number of sources. They can come from something she saw, something she read, or a conversation she had. Then her creativity holds on to it until she is able to capture it on a canvas. Sometimes that happens quickly, but other times it takes some time. With each piece, she finds something new or unexpected that she considers part of her ongoing education about art. She wants to always be learning something new in her creative field.  Her work is meant to display the struggle of discovery about one’s self through each new stage of life. It often reflects how real life and the beauty of life struggle with each other.
