Diego Rivera was a Mexican painter who was well known for being an artist, communist, political activist and husband to famed artist Frida Kahlo. He is widely recognized as the father of the Mexican Mural Movement. Rivera finally found his true inspiration, one that would encourage him to start his own style of work, when he began studying the Renaissance frescoes. Rivera apparently chose to paint outdoor frescoes as well to give citizens a way to enjoy art for free. Through this type of mural art, he was able to finally express his political views and give back to the Mexican community.

Choose from famous Diego Rivera paintings that have been reproduced like Nude with Calla Lilies, Peasants, Flower Festival Feast of Santa Anita, Portrait of Natasha and more. Look closely to observe the artist’s political views and support of Mexico’s working class. OverstockArt offers these pieces of artwork at incredibly affordable prices. These paintings come framed or unframed, and use much color and detail that can be seen up close and far away.

"The painter can and must abstract from many details in creating his painting. Every good composition is above all a work of abstraction. All good painters know this. But the painter cannot dispense with subjects altogether without his work suffering impoverishment."
