Although fauvism’s reign as an art era was relatively brief (1904-1908), it is widely recognized as a period that was exponentially more influential than its four-year run would indicate. Notable contributors within the genre include Albert Marquet, Charles Camoin, Louis Valtat and a number of others. However, French artists Henri Matisse and André Derain are typically regarded as the pioneers of fauvism. Our collection of fauvist art includes a number of notable and less heralded names that represent the genre. These works encompass the most unique and appreciable qualities of fauvism.
