Relish in the thrill of Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by browsing these gorgeous works by Jean-Francois Raffaelli. This French painter began his career in 1871 with three months of study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Despite receiving no other formal training, he went on to become a successful and dynamic figure in the art world over the next 50 years.
As Raffaelli's career began to take off, his Realist style presented a significant contrast with the up-and-coming Impressionists of the time. As opposed to dreamy landscapes and blurred city scenes, Raffaelli chose to focus on stark depictions of the people of Paris, especially those of the lower classes. His works featuring peasants, ragpickers and workers also acted as a social commentary on the conditions in Paris. His street scenes are still highly regarded to this day and are considered a key element of art history. To own a beautiful painting by Raffaelli in your home or business, order one of these stunning handcrafted reproductions on canvas from overstockArt.
