James Abbott McNeill Whistler Paintings

James Abbott McNeill Whistler (July 11, 1834 – July 17, 1903) is one of the best-known artists to date due to his painting Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 commonly known as "Whistler's Mother". This particular painting has been parodied as frequently and Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Born, James Abbott Whistler, he later adopted his mother's maiden name as a second middle name. It is thought that he did this as he later in life identified as a Southern aristocrat, even though he was born and raised in Massachusetts.  Though, it remains unclear as to exactly how he empathized with the south during the American Civil War. Whistler's active period was primarily during the American Gilded Age.

Many of his paintings were named after arrangements, harmonies, and nocturnes because he wanted to emphasize harmony in his work. Each piece is like a relaxing symphony for the soul and mind.

James Abbott McNeil Whistler was born James Abbott Whistler, but he adopted his mother's maiden name later in life as he identified as a Southern aristocrat. The Massachusetts-born artist rose to prominence during the American Gilded Age producing a range of artwork that will be treasured forever. Each of our hand-painted James Abbot McNeil Whistler oil painting replicas embodies the same emphasis on natural harmony as that which inspired the artist's choice to name so many of them after arrangements, harmonies, and nocturnes.
