Tom Arvis :The Art of the Comic

Tom Arvis is a popular comic book artist located in Washignton D.C.. He independently publishes his own comics under the label Sureshot Comics and covers a wide variety of topics. He had a humorous comic strip called “Roommates” that ran in the James Madison University while he was attending and even a few semesters after his graduation. He has also worked as a graphic designer for companies such as Geico, the EPA, National Wildlife Foundation, and 7-Eleven. His passion is the comic book industry though and he doesn’t regret his decision to go independent, allowing him to have steady work in that field.

For his comic creations, Arvis starts out doing pencils and inks by hand, then scans them into a computer to finish them digitally. He is self-taught and has spent years learning and honing his art skills through studying classic art and illustration books. He loves how sharp & bright comic pages look on the screen, so he supports the use of both old and new technology to design his art. You can see the stories and characters that have influenced him in the subjects that he chooses for his art pieces.

He has a flare for the literary in the way he portrays the characters in Ahab and Paul and Babe. Not to mention the amusing comic renderings of the writers Poe and Urich. Then there is the amusing nod to the world of sports in Boxer I and Boxer II.  All of his pieces are full of bright colors and amazing energy. They take an entertaining look at the world and would bring joy into any room of the house.
